Thumm in 1909 in Warren. It began as Thumm’s Tire Shop, which sold Harley Davidson motorcycles, bicycles, motorcycle tires and car tires. Their building featured the first gas pump in Warren. The Thumm brothers struck up a close friendship with James Ward Packard that lasted until his death in 1928.
- Feb. 11, 6 p.m.: “Why We Ride,” a documentary movie that provides a glimpse into the world of motorcycling as told by famous racers, riders and everyday people ($10, includes admission to museum and refreshments). Presented by the Pirate Motorcycle Club.

Cookie tables with a wide variety are a tradition at wedding receptions, graduation parties, showers and other festive occasions in the Youngstown and Pittsburgh area. Working-class families oftentimes could not afford to purchase bakery sheet cakes or wedding cakes, so family, friends and neighbors would bring their delicacies to the hostess to entertain guests.
Crosetto has taught or been an administrator at Youngstown State University, Kent State University and the University of Toledo. She also taught in Youngstown and Liberty schools.
She co-authored “Native North Americans in Literature for Youth: A Selective Annotated Bibliography” and “Death, Loss and Grief in Literature for Youth: A Selective Annotated Bibliography.”
Author to Sign Copies of Short Story Collection
AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Author Nancy Christie will launch her fourth short story collection, “The Language of Love and Other Stories,” with book signings throughout February.
“When I decided to work on a new collection of short stories, I knew I wanted them to be about love, but not just romantic love,” Christie said.”
The 20 stories in the new book depict a variety of love relationships: parent and child, adult children and elderly relatives, new lovers and those who have been together for years.
In one story, two ghosts play matchmaker for their living friends.
The stories encompass all the stages of love, from finding it to sustaining it to losing it.
“While not all have the conventional ‘happy ending,’ they all exemplify the range of emotions that are part of loving relationships,” Christie said.
