NEW CASTLE, Pa. – Two new exhibitions are on display at the Hoyt Institute through Feb. 27: “Fabric of Time: Woven Portraits” by William Walker and “Doom and Bloom,” a series of surrealist paintings by Lizz Ford.

“Fabric of Time” is a collection of woven portraits of noteworthy people from Youngstown’s past and present, including Elizabeth Fellows, George Wick, Richard Mills and Bishop Malone.

The paintings in “Doom and Bloom” are purposefully large, using animals more so than people to make a statement the artist is reluctant to clarify – for example, a pigeon embroidering a floral design on its feathers or a snake sprouting mushrooms from its scales.

A public reception for both exhibits will take place from noon to 2 p.m. Jan. 18. Admission is free.
