YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Pabstolutely music festival will return Saturday with a lineup of 11 bands.
The event, now in its 18th year, takes place outdoors and indoors at the Royal Oaks, 924 Oak St., on the east side. Admission is $10, with proceeds benefiting Golden String programs for adults with disabilities.
The Royal Oaks will sell barbecue, and there will be a food truck on the site, as well as vendors.
Here is the schedule of bands:
- 12:30-1:10 p.m.: The Feral Cats.
- 12:30-1:10 p.m.: The Flying Trees.
- 2:20-3 p.m.: Interior Stations.
- 3:15-3:50 p.m.: Thundervest.
- 4-4:40 p.m.: 8 Balls.
- 4:50-5:30 p.m.: Punk Willie.
- 5:45-6:30 p.m.: Rabbit Dog.
- 6:45-7:20 p.m.: Brood X.
- 7:30-8:10 p.m.: Nervous Aggression.
- 8:20-9 p.m.: Neighbor Dan.
- 9:15 p.m.: Daggrs.
Pooch Pentathlon at Davis Family YMCA
BOARDMAN, Ohio – The Pooch Pentathlon will take place from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, at the Davis Family YMCA, 45 McClurg Road.
The fee is $10 per dog (rabies vaccine required).
There will be three categories for the various events: small, medium and large dogs.
Awards will be presented to the top dogs in each contest for each division. A trick contest has been added this year, with a trainer from A Place for Paws teaching dogs and their owners how to do simple tricks.
A Place for Paws will also have a “Sniff-ari” area set up for dogs to enjoy at their leisure. For information, click HERE.
Golf Outing to Honor Paula and Anthony Richiutti
LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Ohio – The Rich Center will bring back its PAR golf outing Monday, Sept. 8, at Youngstown Country Club.
The date will mark the 31st anniversary of the tragic crash of USAir Flight 427 near Pittsburgh that took the lives of all passengers on board, including Paula and Anthony Richiutti (Rich) of the Mahoning Valley. The PAR outing honors their legacy.
It will consist of a four-man scramble format and will feature raffles and prizes throughout the day. All proceeds will directly benefit the Paula and Anthony Rich Center for Autism.
Although the limit for golf teams has been met, individuals can support the cause by mailing a check or cash to The Rich Center, C/O PAR Golf Outing, 1 Tressel Way, Youngstown, OH 44555. Checks should be made payable to Friends of The Rich Center.
Talent Competition Winners Announced
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The winners of the annual New Wilmington’s Got Talent competition, which took place Aug. 24 at Shumaker Park amphitheater, have been announced.
Fifteen youths participated in the show, with music performances of country, rock, pop and musical theater songs and even a Chopin excerpt on the accordion.
The event concluded with last year’s winner, Gabriel Spinello, a Westminster College sophomore chemistry and music double major from Pittsburgh, singing “Fly Me to the Moon” by Frank Sinatra.
The judges were Sherie Babb, mayor of New Wilmington; Rev. Matthew Camlin, pastor and head of staff at New Wilmington Presbyterian Church; and Aaron Himes, director of bands and assistant professor of music at Westminster College.
Winners received cash prizes.
Here are the winners:
- First place: Violet Horodyski, 10, and Reese McDade, 10, both of Pulaski, performing the song “Popular” from “Wicked,” with Violet singing, Reese doing gymnastics and the duo acting out the scene together.
- Second place: Orlando Harrison, 10, of New Castle, singing and dancing to “Bananaphone.”
- Third place: Ava Ford, 14, of Edinburg, singing “Journey to the Past” from “Anastasia.”
- Fan favorite: Ashtin Campbell, 18, of Hickory Township, and Cameron Lewis, 18, of New Bedford, performing a comedic version of Taylor Swift’s “Love Story.”
