More than 30 vendors and concession trucks will be at the event, and there is room for more. Email pinkoutmahoningvalley@gmail.com.

Donations for the basket raffle and survivor gift bags are also being sought.

Pogo’s Pub to Reopen with a Vindys Concert

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Pogo’s Pub, 214 W.  Rayen Ave., will reopen this month after receiving a complete renovation by owner Hadi Hadi.

An opening concert featuring The Vindys will take place Aug. 28. Tickets to the event were given away Friday morning and are no longer available.

The pub was a mainstay of the Youngstown State University campus area for over 30 years, from the 1970s through the 1990s. It has been closed and vacant for over 30 years.

Hadi also owns the long-vacant building next to Pogo’s Pub and will begin a complete renovation. When it reopens, the building will house a new bar, B-Side, that will share a patio with Pogo’s.

Hadi also owns the Bull & Bear restaurants, including one just a block away on Lincoln Avenue.

Summit FM to Distribute Refurbished Instruments

AKRON, Ohio – The Summit FM’s Marilyn Stroud Music Alive Program recently surpassed 800 musical instruments refurbished and donated to public school students.

The program, launched 15 years ago, removes financial barriers to music education by collecting, restoring and donating instruments to underfunded school music programs. Akron Public Schools serves as the program’s primary partner, with additional participation from Barberton, Canton, Struthers/Youngstown, Athens and the Himalayan Music Academy in North Hill.

The program’s momentum has accelerated in recent years. In the past two years alone, over 70 instruments were distributed. An additional 50-plus instruments and pieces of equipment are staged and ready for distribution this August.

During this same period, the program added Milvet Guitar Repair as a refurbishing partner for all stringed instruments, while modernizing its intake and distribution process to serve more students.

Program partners will pick up their instruments Aug. 22 at the station so they can be used during the upcoming school year.

“Music Alive started as a simple idea – that no student should be kept from playing music because they can’t afford an instrument,” said Tommy Bruno, general manager of The Summit FM. “Surpassing 800 instruments after 15 years is a testament to this community’s generosity, and to how much our listeners believe in the power of music education.”
