WARREN, Ohio – Red Wanting Blue will headline this year’s Woofstock concert and fundraiser Aug. 8 at Packard Music Hall.

The Steel Valley All Stars, featuring Rajma and Dennis Drummond, will also perform.

The annual event raises money for spaying and neutering of pets. Doors will open at 7 p.m. Tickets are available HERE.

This year’s Woofstock will have seating on the floor level, with the balcony available if needed. It will also include a basket raffle, with each prize valued at over $100. Several baskets that will require additional tickets will be of a higher value, including the Big Bonzai, which includes over $1,000 in dog toys, treats, care items and other objects.

Alice Cooper Tribute Band at Penguin City

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Coop’s Nightmare, an Alice Cooper tribute show, will come to Penguin City Brewing Co.’s live music venue Oct. 3.

Fans can expect an evening filled with Alice Cooper’s biggest hits, elaborate stage theatrics and a Halloween atmosphere.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. Solo Sixstring will be the opening act.

Author to Sign Books at Several Stores

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Valley-based author Nancy Christie will sign copies of her latest novel, “Transforming Tessa,” at several bookstores in August. Here is her schedule:

  • Aug. 1: Boundless Books, 51 Clinton St., Greenville, Pa., noon to 3 p.m.
  • Aug. 8: Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 7900 Mentor Ave., Mentor, 1-3 p.m.
  • Aug. 16: The Learned Owl Book Shop, 204 N. Main St., Hudson, 1-3 p.m.
  • Aug. 22: Clever Quill Bookstore, 450 S. Lisbon St., Carrollton, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Christie will teach her Creating Memory Snapshots workshop at Kinsman Public Library, 6420 Church St., Kinsman, from 5-6:30 p.m. Aug. 18.

The paperback version of “Transforming Tessa” was released in May. Christie will release her next novel, which will also be part of her Midlife Moxie series about women who find success later in life, in May.

Auditions for ‘Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon!’

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Auditions for the Youngstown Playhouse’s youth production of “The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon!” will take place from 4-7 p.m. Aug. 13 and noon to 2 p.m. Aug. 15.

Callbacks will be held if necessary by invitation only at 6 p.m. Aug. 17.

Director Shiloh Hart is seeking a cast of as many as 20 8- to 18-year-olds. Interested performers should be confident readers and excited to collaborate and create with other performers. Auditionees should either prepare their own 1- to 3-minute comedic monologue or choose one of the prepared monologues found HERE. These monologues should be memorized. Auditionees will audition one at a time.

Rehearsals will begin July 31. Rehearsals will be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday-Thursday. The full company will not be called at all rehearsals. Performances will take place Oct. 2-4.

Butler Art Camp Exhibition on Friday

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Butler Institute of American Art’s summer visual arts camp for children will conclude this week.

The students are learning methods and techniques of drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture. Additionally, in celebration of America’s 250th birthday, each child will sample art represented in the museum’s permanent collection back to America’s founding through today.

The camp will culminate with an exhibition showcasing the students’ artwork at 1 p.m. Friday.

Auditions for 3 Shows at ACTS

SHARON, Pa. – Auditions will be held for all three fall/winter productions at Acts Performing Arts Center in August.

Here is the schedule:

  • Aug. 9, 2-4 p.m.: Singers for Acts Sings: Duos and Duets. Be prepared to sing 32 bars of a song of your choosing. Additional auditions will take place from 7-9 p.m. Aug. 12. The show will be Sept. 25-27.
  • Aug. 9, 6-8 p.m.: Auditions for “The Edgar Allan Poe Radio Show.” Bring an excerpt, poem or short story by Poe to read or recite. Additional auditions will take place from 7-9 p.m. Aug. 11. Performances will take place Oct. 30-Nov. 1 and Nov. 6-8.
  • Aug. 23, 3-5 p.m.: Auditions for Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas.” Additional auditions will take place from 7-9 p.m. Aug. 25. Be prepared to sing 32 bars of any upbeat Christmas song; bring sheet music for the accompanist. The audition will also include dancing (bring appropriate footwear) and a cold read from the script for anyone who is interested in a principal role. The cast includes children and adults. Performances will take place Dec. 4-6 and 11-13.
