NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College Celebrity Series has announced its 2025-26 season, which includes concerts by legendary Motown group the Commodores and a Christmas show by Broadway star Michael Cavanaugh.

All shows will begin at 7:30 p.m. and take place in Orr Auditorium on the Westminster campus.

Here is the schedule:

  • Sept. 13: The Commodores, led by founding member William King. The band is known for its hits “Easy,” “Brick House” and “Nightshift.”
  • Oct. 11: One Night in Memphis, a tribute to Sun Records recording artists Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash. This show, starring former cast members of the Broadway smash hit “Million Dollar Quartet,” features the rockabilly, country, gospel and rock music of the artists.
  • Dec. 16: Very Rockin’ Christmas show with Michael Cavanaugh. Modern Christmas songs such as “Last Christmas” and “Wonderful Christmastime” are combined with classics such as “Jingle Bell Rock,” “Winter Wonderland” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” Cavanaugh starred in the Billy Joel Broadway musical “Movin’ Out.”
  • March 28: Three American Troubadours, a tribute to the music of James Taylor, Carly Simon and Carole King.
  • April 25: Commotion, a tribute to Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Artsy Evenings on Phelps Street Corridor 

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A new weekly public gathering on the Phelps Street Gateway, downtown, will celebrate creativity, connection and community through the creation of art.

The series will begin from 5-8 p.m. July 31. Future sessions will take place every Thursday.

The public is invited to bring their own art and craft supplies and join fellow makers in the pedestrian concourse for an open-air evening of creativity.

Guests can crochet, paint, draw, embroider or work in any other medium. All levels of experience are welcome.

The weekly sessions are not a class but a place to gather, create and connect. Round tables and chairs will be set up, and attendees are encouraged to bring whatever materials they need. It’s a low-pressure way to meet fellow creatives and make something beautiful, all while enjoying the revitalized energy of Phelps Street.

It is sponsored by the Youngstown Office of Special Events.

Free parking is available in the lot on Commerce Street, between Yonder restaurant and Wick Avenue.

This weekly event will continue through the fall, weather permitting.

Art as a Mental Health Aide at Park

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Artscape Expressive, hosted by the Helms Foundation, will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 26, in  Austintown Township Park, 6000 Kirk Road.

This free event aims to raise awareness about the link between art and wellness, emphasizing art therapy’s role in mental health recovery. The nonprofit Helms Foundation promotes community-based art therapy services.

Artscape Expressive will feature activities that integrate art, nature and wellness, and foster community engagement and understanding.

It will include art stations for activities such as tye-dye T-shirt making, nature weaving, rock painting, glide painting and a pinch pot throw station.

Other activities will include a paint in motion yoga session with Jeanette Cole of Nonna, Momma, Me; face painting by Sky’s the Limit; henna tattoos; and massotherapy.

The event will also include food trucks and vendors.
