WARREN, Ohio – Trumbull County Tourism has released its Truly Trumbull Trip Ideas magazine for 2026.

The publication blends trip-planning inspiration with stories tied to the county’s America 250-Ohio programs.

The cover photo depicts a warm, Americana moment from the Newton Falls Fourth of July Parade that shows two local boys enjoying popsicles. It conveys the spirit of small-town celebrations and community pride that runs through the entire guide.

“Our team is really proud of this year’s guide,” said Beth Kotwis Carmichael, CEO of Trumbull County Tourism. “We wanted visitors and locals to see the everyday scenes that make this place feel like home, while also honoring Trumbull County’s role in Ohio and America’s story.”

The agency encourages Trumbull residents to use the booklet to find events to attend when family and friends visit.

Throughout the guide, readers will find history highlights and facts, along with features that showcase:

  • Innovation and “firsts”: Original places, inventions and stories rooted in Trumbull County.
  • Museums and attractions: From industrial heritage to living history and local art.
  • Comfort food and regional dishes: Italian favorites, grandma-style portions and local originals.

Radio Talk Show Host to Receive Award

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Ohio – Dan Rivers, a recently retired longtime Mahoning Valley radio talk show host, will receive the Pioneer Award on Saturday at a lecture he will give at 10 a.m. in the meeting room of Denny’s Restaurant, 4020 Belmont Ave.

The lecture will be part of the William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society speakers series.

Rivers retired from the air in late 2024 after being a fixture of Valley daytime radio broadcasting for decades. Known for interviewing local elected officials, personalities and a variety of nonprofit leaders, he was an advocate for transparency in government decision-making, small government, common sense and American values.

The Pioneer Award is a recognition of Rivers’ contribution to the Valley’s civic and cultural welfare. He was known as a voice of reason during times of turbulence.

Admission is $15 ($10 for historical society members). The event will include refreshments, a 50/50 raffle and entertainment, with proceeds benefiting the historical society’s education mission.

Playground Project Group Plans Celebration

COLUMBIANA, Ohio – The third annual For the Love of the Playground event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Jan. 24 at Birdfish Brewery, 140 E. Park Ave.

This annual family-friendly celebration brings together neighbors, businesses and supporters who are raising funds to create an inclusive playground at Firestone Park. Admission is free.

This year’s event will include an update on progress and check presentations at 1 p.m. by contributors. 

There will also be a food truck, soda stand, children’s activities, raffle baskets and fresh Park IPA beer brewed for the occasion.

This event will also be the only opportunity to pick up naming pickets from the original Funland Playground. These pickets, installed as part of the 1995 build, carry sentimental value for many families. Due to decades of exposure and natural wear, many of the pickets no longer exist or are damaged, and the committee cannot be responsible for their condition.

There is no cost to retrieve a picket, but the committee appreciates donations to support the new playground.

Camp JCC Plans Open House, Pool Party

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Camp JCC will hold an open house and pool party from 1-3 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane.

Participants will have the opportunity to swim as well as learn more about Camp JCC, which is  for youths in kindergarten through eighth grade. Camp will be Monday through Friday from June 1 through Aug. 7. It will also offer a leader in training program for teens entering grades nine and 10.

All families who attend will receive a $36 credit toward Camp JCC for each camper in attendance. Families that pay their registration fee during the open house will be entered for a chance to win 10 free weeks of camp. There is also an early-bird discount of $25 off camp fees if registering before March 31.
