YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – John Schu, author of “Louder Than Hunger,” will come to the Main Branch of the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County, 305 Wick Ave., at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28.
Schu, who writes fictional novels for middle-school-age teenagers, will share insights into “Louder Than Hunger,” followed by a meet and greet and book signing opportunity.

“Louder Than Hunger” deals with teen issues such as anxiety and anorexia and is aimed at middle-school students and young adult readers.
It is semi-autobiographical and tackles the subjects of anxiety and an eating disorder, written from the perspective of a teen named Jake.
Before becoming a full-time author, Schu was a school librarian and elementary school teacher. He advocates for books that help young people navigate difficult emotions and experiences.
Jewish Film Fest to Screen ‘Guns and Moses’
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Youngstown Area Jewish Film Festival, in partnership with the Center for Judaic and Holocaust Studies at Youngstown State University, will present the film “Guns and Moses” at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 3 in Cushwa Hall (Room B112) at YSU.
The film is for people age 18 and older.

The fictitious film is about the character Mo Zaltzman, a Hasidic rabbi in a desert town who is shaken when his congregation is attacked. Police arrest a young White nationalist, but Mo doubts the boy’s guilt. With no one else searching for answers, he steps into the role of detective. As bodies mount, Zaltzman must master a gun and confront a terrifying choice: whether he can pull the trigger when lives are at stake, or whether his hesitation will cost everything.
A virtual question and answer session with film director and author Salvador Litvak will follow the film.
Bee Gees Tribute Concert at Robins Theatre
WARREN, Ohio – Stayin Alive, a tribute to The Bee Gees, will come to the Robins Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 10.
The concert will feature the act performing the hits of The Bee Gees and will include video, photos and imagery on stage.
Tickets will go on sale at 8 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at RobinsTheatre.com.
Arms Museum Closes to Prepare Exhibit
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Mahoning Valley Historical Society is finalizing preparations for its annual Memories of Christmas Past exhibit and events.
The Arms Family Museum and Stewart Media Archives will be closed from today until the exhibit opens Nov. 15.
During this time, the Tyler History Center will remain open during regular hours (noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday), and admission will be half-price. Prices will return to their normal rates Nov. 15.
Stage Left to Present Storytelling Event
LISBON, Ohio – Stage Left Players will present “Crossroads,” its next Spark Storytelling event, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, at Trinity Playhouse in Lisbon, 234 E. Lincoln Way.
“Crossroads” will feature true stories told by everyday people – moments when choices big or small changed the course of life. From jobs to family, friendships to faith, or even the dessert table, everyone has a crossroads story to share.
To prepare for the event, Stage Left is offering a “Spark is about more than performance,” said Kandy Cleland, the Spark coach who is helping attendees share their stories. “It’s about connection. When we share our real stories, we build community, empathy and joy.”
Acts Theater Seeks Actors for ‘Superstar’
SHARON, Pa. – Auditions for Acts Performing Arts Center’s production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” will take place from 6-8 p.m. Nov. 16 and 7-9 p.m. Nov. 17 at the theater at 40 S. Irvine St., downtown.
Auditionees will be asked to perform 32 bars of a Broadway song with a pop, rock or gospel influence along with participating in a brief dance audition (bring appropriate footwear). Production will be under the direction of Nicole Walzer, music director Joseph Spurio and choreographer Jessica Wellington.
All roles and the ensemble are open.
Performances will be March 14-15, 20-22 and 27-29.
