YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – “Russell Maddick: Visions of a Changing” will open Sunday, May 4, at The Butler Institute of American Art and run through June 29.

A meet-the-artist reception will take place from 1-3 p.m. Sunday.

Maddick is an abstract painter known for his vibrant and rhythmic fusions of organic and architectural inspired imagery.

His densely layered paintings and works on paper have been exhibited in numerous solo and group shows for over 30 years, and his works are represented in museum and corporate collections across the country.

“Russell Maddick is clearly one of Ohio’s unique talents,” said Louis Zona, executive director of The Butler. “The imagery that he creates fills his canvases with original plant and animal life. Few artists possess the talent to invent on such a scale.”

Maddick is a professor emeritus from the Youngstown State University art department. He lives and works in Pennsylvania and Florida.
