Thompson Insurance Group, LLC, a family-owned and operated agency established in 1947, celebrated its 78th year of doing business in the Mahoning Valley in 2025.
The agency added staff, remained dedicated to the community, celebrated milestones and grew within its subsidiaries: The Gibson Agency, Thompson Private Client Services, PetBizInsurance.com, and Gibson Agri & Equine Insurance, according to company officials.
The Girard, Ohio, agency added to its team over the past year with additions across multiple departments. Donna Darling joined the agency’s Personal Lines division as an account executive and Joseph Christopher joined the department as a personal risk manager.
The agency’s PetBizInsurance.com division, a niche branch providing pet business insurance solutions nationwide, also expanded its team with two new members, Dontea Dawson and Rachel Julian.
Throughout 2025, Thompson supported schools and nonprofits through donations and sponsorships and gave back to the community. Early in 2025, the agency was the recipient of the Safeco and Liberty Mutual Make More Happen Award, a nationwide contest, for its work with Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley, securing a $10,000 donation for the organization. On July 25, the agency continued its support of the food bank with its fourth annual Community Appreciation Day, collecting 1,646 pounds of food and raising $3,566, the highest totals to date.
The company also transitioned to new leadership in 2025, with Andrew D. Thompson, CPIA, assuming the role of Chief Executive Officer, succeeding his father, David A. Thompson, president. The change marks the agency’s entry into its third generation of family ownership.
