WARREN, Ohio – Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership has begun the demolition of dozens of long-vacant, blighted buildings across Trumbull County.

The Trumbull County Land Bank, managed by TNP, was awarded $6.2 million from the Ohio Department of Development Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program for the demolition of properties countywide.

The grant required local matching funds, which were provided by the city of Warren for its portion of the project and Trumbull County commissioners for communities outside Warren.

“Removing these long-neglected properties is about more than demolition – it’s about restoring pride and opportunity to neighborhoods across Trumbull County,” said Matt Martin, executive director of TNP. “This funding allows us to address blight in Trumbull County communities that previously hadn’t been able to address longtime nuisance properties.”

Forty-four demolitions of derelict structures are currently taking place, with 43 already completed and 12 more pending. The properties are a combination of abandoned residential and commercial properties and include a long-vacant hotel at 1600 Motor Inn Drive in Liberty Township. Additional demolitions through the county match are occurring in Braceville, Hubbard Township, Johnston, Mecca, Cortland, West Farmington, Brookfield, Newton Township, Warren Township, Weathersfield, Niles, Lordstown and Girard.

“This project is a win for Trumbull County,” said Commissioner Denny Malloy. “By investing ARPA dollars, we tripled our impact and are able to address some issues in rural areas and other parts of the county that these dollars don’t always reach.”

In addition to demolishing blighted structures, TNP will work with local partners to explore future reuse opportunities, including new economic development or housing opportunities, green space or community projects that reflect community priorities.

Since 2012, TNP has facilitated the demolition of more than 1,300 blighted properties, rehabilitated hundreds of homes and invested in community-driven development initiatives.
