YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra will return to Stambaugh Auditorium on Dec. 10 for a 7:30 p.m concert.
This year’s show will have a local flavor because the orchestra’s music director is Jeff Bush, a former Youngstown State University faculty member and student.
Bush joined the orchestra in 2000 under bandleader Buddy Morrow. He would leave the TDO to launch his own career, and then returned in 2024 under his current position.
Throughout his career, Bush has performed with Harry Connick Jr., the Count Basie Orchestra, Frankie Valli, the Temptations, the Four Tops and numerous Broadway productions.
The December concert will be a meaningful homecoming for the accomplished trombonist and educator, said Dani Dier, chief business officer of Stambaugh Auditorium.
“Having Jeff Bush return to Youngstown to lead one of America’s most iconic orchestras makes this performance especially exciting for our community,” she said. “His connection to Youngstown State University and his remarkable career are something our audiences can take great pride in, and we are thrilled to welcome both Jeff and this legendary orchestra to Stambaugh.”
Carrying on the legacy of one of the most celebrated orchestras of the Swing Era, The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra continues to delight audiences around the world. The timeless music made Dorsey a household name.
His classic songs include “I’m Getting Sentimental Over You,” “Marie,” “Opus One” and “I’ll Never Smile Again.”
