NORTH JACKSON, Ohio – The third annual Tough Tower will return June 5 and 6 with an expanded lineup of events that highlights the essential work of tower professionals while drawing attention to the future of telecommunications.
The family-friendly event, which is free and open to the public, will take place at 8900 Mahoning Ave.
The event will feature live tower climbing competitions, hands-on equipment demonstrations and educational opportunities for all ages.
“This event shines a long-overdue spotlight on the brave men and women who climb towers and keep our communication networks running,” said Christopher Thomas, owner of Tri-County Tower, a co-founding sponsor. “They work in extreme conditions at incredible heights. Tough Tower is about honoring that courage and skill – and letting the public see just how impressive their work truly is.”
The event will kick off with a celebration and networking reception at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course, followed by two days of competition and interactive experiences. Attendees will be able to test the latest gear from FallTech, preview custom software solutions from Trinity Integrated Solutions and explore virtual tower climbs using Transfr VR headsets sponsored by Neo Node Broadband and Youngstown State University’s Center for Workforce Education and Innovation. On the ground, spectators will be able to watch real-time climb coverage on monitors.
There will also be a KidZone with a giant inflatable slide and games, as well as a Climber’s Lounge for competitors, supported by NovaCare Rehabilitation.
“This is more than just a competition – it’s a meaningful touchpoint for the entire telecom industry,” said Mark Muzzana, partner at STG Communications, a co-founding sponsor. “Tough Tower bridges the gap between the front lines and the future of connectivity. With the support of key industry partners like NATE, the Communications Infrastructure Contractors Association, we’re not only raising awareness – we’re helping shape the next generation of tower professionals.”
A key focus of the event is education and workforce development. Organizations, including YSU’s Center for Workforce Education and Innovation and Neo Node Broadband, will be on-site to offer information about training programs and career pathways in telecommunications.
