GROVE CITY, Pa. – Jim McLusky, a lifelong Mercer County resident and founder of McLusky Showcase Kitchens and Baths in Wilmington, Pa., participated in a housing panel last week during the third annual Mercer County Economic Summit.
McLusky highlighted the county’s shortage of “missing middle” housing — new construction priced between $250,000 and $400,000 — as a key issue affecting the local market. He said the gap limits opportunities for first-time homebuyers, young professionals and seniors seeking to downsize.
Without more housing in that price range, McLusky warned that workers may choose to live in neighboring areas, weakening the county’s tax base and straining services. He called for a proactive approach to rebuilding the local housing market and encouraging careers in the trades as part of a long-term solution.
