HERMITAGE, Pa. – Travel & Leisure Magazine has listed the city as a Best Place to Retire in the Northeast United States for Lower Taxes and Affordable Housing in its “Destination Retirement 2025” edition.
Hermitage ranked at the top of 10 cities in Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and New Jersey that were named to the list. Travel & Leisure based selections on data from Investopedia, which focused on cost of living for two adults, housing, transportation, health care and taxes, as well as access to arts, culture, major airports and more.
Travel & Leisure cited the city’s small-town charm, abundant outdoor recreation – including Shenango River Lake and Buhl Park – and proximity to regional cultural amenities. The article specifically referenced the low cost of homeownership, access to health care and favorable tax policy as key attributes in its selection of the city.
“Hermitage offers a rich quality of life, affordability and abundant beauty, not only to retirees, but also for working families and people at all stages of life,” said Duane Piccirilli, president of the Hermitage Board of Commissioners. “We believe our community is a special place that is very attractive to residents and visitors alike, and the Travel & Leisure selection affirms that view.”
In 2014, the city was recognized by CreditDonkey.com as the best Pennsylvania city to live in. The ranking was based on income, education, restaurants, commute time and crime rate. The city was also recognized for its affordable housing and below average cost of living.
