WARREN, Ohio – Three Mahoning Valley communities are among 51 in the state that will receive a total of nearly $11 million in allocations to support community development projects.
Funded through the federal Community Development Block Grant program, the funding will assist communities in completing a variety of infrastructure improvements and public services aimed at spurring economic growth and improving the quality of life for residents.
Trumbull County will receive $632,000 for the completion of construction of sanitary, storm sewers and manholes along Crain Drive in Weathersfield Township, benefiting 170 people; street reconstruction of portions of Donley Road in Mesopotamia Township, benefiting 70 people; and the installation of fire hydrants around parts of the city of Girard, benefiting 676 people.
“Every strong community is built on a solid foundation,” Gov. Mike DeWine said. “Not only will this funding help improve everyday life for more families today, it will create the conditions needed to attract growth and opportunity in the future.”
Cities and counties considered U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development nonentitlement communities are eligible to apply for funds biennially. Ohio’s 100 eligible communities are divided between even and odd years of funding.
