WARREN, Ohio – The Trumbull County Planning Commission recently recognized five members of the Trumbull County Jail staff as the September recipients of its Something Good Initiative.

Through the initiative, the planning commission recognizes individuals and organizations for their contributions to the community.

Members of the staff were recognized for their quick response, teamwork, compassion and life-saving actions during an emergency at the Trumbull County Jail.

Correction officers Elliot Palmer, Marisa Thomas and Stephanie Stout-Zakrajsek, janitor Joseph Bornemiss and medical assistant Iyuna Singleton were honored for their actions Aug. 4, when they responded to a life-threatening emergency involving an inmate in a general population housing unit.

When the call for assistance was made, Palmer, Bornemiss and Thomas responded immediately. Through their quick action and teamwork, they were able to intervene and bring the individual to safety, a news release states. Singleton and Stout-Zakrajsek then immediately began administering first aid and continued providing critical care until emergency medical services arrived.

“The actions of these five employees are a powerful example of what the Something Good Initiative is all about,” said Zak Steiner, planning coordinator for the Trumbull County Planning Commission. “When faced with an incredibly difficult situation, they did not hesitate. They worked together, cared for another person and took the actions necessary to help save a life. We are proud to recognize them and thank them for their service to Trumbull County.”
