YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Ursuline High School increased its endowment fund in 2024, its 120th year of educating young men and women.
‘We further grew our endowment fund so that an Ursuline education is affordable for any family,” says Carolyn Korenic, director of alumni and advancement.
The Ursuline Endowment Fund Inc. has a market value of $10.9 million as of Dec. 31, she notes. It endows 135 scholarships including four newly funded scholarships in the 2024-25 school year.
Ursuline continues to expand its STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and technology) programming, Korenic says.
“The highly successful and innovative Merici Med Prep Program added a new course, biomedical investigations. The course examines the prevention, diagnosis, progression and treatment of various diseases using case studies, lab testing/techniques, and the school’s own Anatomage Table – a virtual dissection table which can be found at most medical schools,” she says.
The Merici Med Prep Program was named for the founder of the Ursuline order, St. Angela Merici. It enables students to gain awareness of various medical career paths. They participate in practical experiences with guidance from medical professionals and are able to earn a Med Prep Certificate.
The school also added a robotics team funded through an estate gift.
“Students will gain real-world engineering experiences and build soft skills such as teamwork, confidence and creativity,” Korenic says.
Ursuline students continued to achieve academically last year with the school logging 100% pass rates in several advanced placement exams.
