Valley Auto Sales Jump 27.5% in May
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Local auto sales continue to surpass last year’s pace as there were 5,246 new and used vehicles sold in May, according to the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers Association.
That figure marks a 27.5% increase from May 2020. Year-to-date, there have 25,965 vehicles sold to buyers in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, a 29.7% climb from the same period a year ago.
New-car sales totaled 2,885 in May, a 33.9% jump, as 11 dealerships hit triple-digit sales numbers. Atop the list was Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, with 161 sales. Following were Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, with 135; Fairway Ford, Canfield, with 125; Sweeney Buick GMC, Boardman. with 121; and Stadium GM, Salem, with 119.
Used-car sales were up 17.1% to 2,235 in May, led by Greenwood Chevrolet with 117 sold. The only other dealership to hit triple-digit sales was Fairway Ford with 111.
Across the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealership Association’s 22-county footprint, combined new- and used-car sales rose 24.2% to 8,995. Fairway Ford ranked No. 3 in combined sales across the trade group with 344 sales in May.
Also in the top 10 were Greenwood Chevrolet at No. 7 with 275 sales, Sweeney Chevrolet at No. 9 with 255 and Boardman Subaru in tenth with 225.
