BOARDMAN, Ohio – A lot of restaurants don’t give a lot of attention to breakfast. They see it as a perfunctory meal, keeping it quick and simple.
That’s not the case at the new Valley Kitchen restaurant in Boardman.
“We treat breakfast like it’s dinner,” said Batoul Hassan, who owns the restaurant with her husband, Hashem Jaafar. “Customers get the full dinner experience.”
Valley Kitchen closes at 3 p.m., so it doesn’t offer dinner. But the food quality and presentation, as well as the surroundings, are at the level of a better restaurant.
“The whole idea is, this is not your typical diner,” Jaafar said. “Everything looks nice. We pay attention to all the details.”
The restaurant opened Tuesday at 1393 Boardman-Canfield Road, in Huntington Place Plaza, across from Meijer. It had a steady stream of customers Thursday afternoon.
“They love the way we cook and present our food,” Hassan said. “Everything is high quality, including the service and the decor. They get the full dinner experience,” while eating breakfast, brunch or lunch.
It’s the couple’s second Valley Kitchen, joining the original location at 3640 E. State St. in Hermitage, Pa. They also own the Jai Alai bar in Hermitage, Pa., and C’s Waffles in Hubbard.
The menu is the same as at the original location, and so are the hours. It is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., seven days a week.
The menu features a variety of breakfast and lunch items, including chicken and waffles, biscuits and sausage gravy with fried potatoes, blueberry lemon ricotta pancakes, Reubens, grilled cheese and smash burgers, as well as soups and salads.
It also includes traditional breakfast entrees, skillets and a half dozen varieties of eggs benedict; sweeter specialties based on pancakes and French toast; and nutritious low-fat items.
There are also omelets and sandwiches.
Valley Kitchen also has a full barista bar, and it will soon have a full liquor bar that will serve up bloody Marys, mimosas and other drinks.
The restaurant is in the same location as the former Suzie’s Dogs and Drafts and Mission Taco, but you wouldn’t know it. It has been completely gutted and renovated.
The main dining room has a long bar for diners, as well as tables and booths. A second and smaller dining room is in an adjacent room.
Together, they seat 100 and are served by a staff of about 25.
