YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – March unemployment rates in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties all were down from the month before but were higher than a year earlier, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported Tuesday.
Trumbull County reported the highest rate among the three counties, with a 6.2% unemployment rate in March. That was down from 6.6% in February but up from 5.4% in March 2024.
Mahoning County’s unemployment rate was slightly lower in March at 5.9%, up from 5.1% a year earlier but down from February’s 6.3%.
Columbiana County’s 5.8% rate, lower than its two neighboring counties to the north, was up from 5.1% a year earlier but down from 6.4% the month before.
The Trumbull County seat, Warren, had the highest unemployment rate among Ohio cities at 7.4%, unchanged from the month before but up from 6.2% in March 2024. The unemployment rate in the Mahoning Valley’s largest city, Youngstown, was 6.9%, down from 7.3% in February but up from 5.8% a year earlier.
