YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Local unemployment rates showed a month-over-month jump in December, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported.

Mahoning County’s unemployment rate in December was 5.2%, up from 4.6% in November. Trumbull County’s rate increased from 4.8% to 5.5%, and Columbiana County’s rate rose from 4.3% to 4.8%.

Rates in all three counties were up from a year earlier. The December 2023 unemployment rate was 3.8% in Mahoning County, 3.9% in Trumbull County and 3.6% in Columbiana County.

The unemployment rate in the city of Youngstown increased from 5.8% in November to 6.3% in December. The rate was up from 4.4% in December 2023.

The city of Warren’s unemployment rate increased from 6% in November to 6.6% in December. The rate was up from 4.6% in December 2023.
