YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Local unemployment rates showed a month-over-month jump in January, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported.

Mahoning County’s unemployment rate in January was 6.3%, up from 5% in December 2024. Trumbull County’s rate increased from 5.3% to 6.6%, and Columbiana County’s rate rose from 4.8% to 6.5%.

Rates in all three counties were up from a year earlier. The January 2024 unemployment rate was 5.4% in Mahoning County, 5.5% in Trumbull County and 5.4% in Columbiana County.

The unemployment rate in the city of Youngstown increased from 6% in December to 7.2% in January. The rate was up from 6% in January 2024.

The city of Warren’s unemployment rate increased from 6.4% in December to 7.6% in January. The rate was up from 6.3% in January 2024.
