VLT Revenues, Winnings, Rise at Racino
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Revenues and winnings were up for the second month in a row on video lottery terminals at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course in Austintown, even as VLT revenues dipped statewide last month.
In January, credits played totaled $78.7 million and credits won more than $69.9 million. Net win was $8.0 million and the racino’s commission – its take of the net win – was $5.3 million.
That compares to wagers totaling $77.1 million in December, winnings of $68.8 million, net win of $7.8 million and a commission to the racino of $5.2 million.
In January 2015, credits played totaled $64.6 million and winnings $57.4 million. Net win was $6.9 million and the racino’s commission was $4.6 million.
Statewide VLT results in January were down from December. Credits played totaled $756.3 million in January, down from $799.7 million the month before. Credits won in January were $674.5 million, compared with $713.9 in December. Net win was $69.1 million and racino commissions $45.7 million last month, compared with $72.8 million and $48.1 million, respectively.
Play at Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway, which opened a month before the Austintown racino’s September 2014 opening, was $67.7 million and credits won $59.9 million in January. That compared with $74.4 million and $59.9 million, respectively. Net win there was $6.8 million and the racino commission $4.5 million, compared with $7.5 million and just under $5 million, respectively, in December.
“We have now seen a full year of operations at our Dayton and Mahoning Valley properties, so we have really good performance [comparisons] on a year-over-year basis,” said Eric Schippers, senior vice president of public affairs for Penn National Gaming Inc., which operates both racinos. Both are seeing healthy growth in revenues and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, he reported.
“Overall, we’re very encouraged about where we’re headed there,” he remarked.
