BOARDMAN, Ohio – Youngstown State University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program launches “Walk with a Doc” at the Southern Park Mall this month to help encourage healthy physical activity in people of all ages across the region.
The free program, funded by a grant from Area Health Education Center, begins 9 a.m. Jan. 25, at the mall’s center concourse and will continue the last Thursday of each month at 9 a.m. for the remainder of 2018.
A doctor will be on hand to provide a brief educational session on a relevant health topic and then will lead the group on a walk at each participant’s own pace.
“Walking is one of the simplest activities that anyone of any age can do to help maintain their physical and their mental health,” said Cara Berg-Carramusa, instructor and director of Clinical Education in the Department of Physical Therapy at YSU in a news release. “We’re hopeful that this program will help reverse the dire consequences that come with a sedentary lifestyle.”
Each session will include refreshments, blood pressure and heart rate checks, and the opportunity to talk with students in the YSU Doctor of Physical Therapy program about embracing an active and healthy lifestyle.
Sessions will be 9 a.m. at the Southern Park Mall, 7401 Market St., on the following Thursdays:
- Jan. 25
- Feb. 22
- March 29
- April 26
- May 31
- June 28
- July 26
- Aug. 30
- Sept. 27
- Oct. 25
- Nov. 29
- Dec. 27
