WARREN, Ohio – Insight Hospital & Medical Center Trumbull has less than 30 days to request a hearing with the Ohio Department of Health or risk having its state license to operate revoked.
On Nov. 17, ODH informed Insight Foundation of Trumbull officials of a proposal to revoke the hospital’s state licensure, according to a statement from ODH.
Alleged violations of concern, according to ODH’s letter to Insight, include failing to properly heat the facility and failure to provide appropriate care for a patient. The allegations were made following a Nov. 12 patient care complaint and licensure monitoring inspections.
Additionally, it states there were uncorrected violations cited during inspections March 27, Sept. 23, Oct. 9 and Oct. 22.
The letter states that ODH did not take any licensure action during the temporary closure of the hospital from late March to mid-October. It notes that there have been violations involving water management plans that test for waterborne pathogens, patient care-related concerns and heat and boiler issues.
The patient care complaint involves a stroke patient who reportedly waited two hours in the emergency room for care before being transferred to another hospital, jeopardizing the window during which medications need to be administered.
The ODH letter also confirms that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services terminated the hospital’s provider agreement Oct. 10 for noncompliance. When the hospital reopened Oct. 14, it was touted that the CMS agreement was among the roadblocks that were cleared.
ODH has given Insight 30 days to request a hearing before the state license would be revoked.
Soon after the letter was issued by ODH, an Insight spokesperson released a statement: “It’s a difficult process to reopen a hospital and getting Trumbull going again has had its challenges yet we are addressing them and will continue to do so. Our sole purpose is to provide healthcare access and quality care to the community.”
