WARREN, Ohio – Insight Hospital & Medical Center Trumbull has reopened its emergency room.
According to the hospital’s website, the emergency room is now open 24 hours a day. The website also notes the current wait time.
During the Trumbull County commissioners’ workshop Tuesday, Commissioner Rick Hernandez announced the reopening and thanked U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, for meeting with hospital officials and paving the way for keeping the hospital’s licenses in place.
He also thanked the city of Warren and the county and encouraged residents to return to the hospital.
“Insight Hospital & Medical Center Trumbull is now officially open, providing 24/7 emergency care along with inpatient and outpatient services,” an Insight spokesperson said in a statement. “We are grateful for the continued partnership of our community, staff, nurses, doctors, and leaders at every level of government as we reopen.”
Deb Bindas, regional director of AFSCME Ohio Council 8, said Tuesday that 34 union members have returned to the hospital, including 14 registered nurses, which is enough to staff the emergency room 24/7. Members of the Service Employees International Union have also returned. Bindas said others are still waiting, with Insight indicating the reopening will expand services in phases based on the volume of patients.
“We’re absolutely ecstatic that it happened,” Bindas said of the long-awaited reopening. “We’ve got a lot of people on hold with their lives, waiting to return to the hospital.”
Insight Health System acquired the Warren hospital as well as the former Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital in Howland through Steward Health Care System’s bankruptcy. Insight closed both hospitals in late March.
Insight announced in September that the hospital would soon resume 24/7 emergency care with supporting services. Earlier this month, the Ohio Department of Health released a report from a Sept. 23 inspection that noted concerns and violations that would require correction before the hospital could reopen.
Bindas said the issues and concerns have been addressed. She also indicated that Hillside’s reopening is on hold, at least until patients at the Warren hospital require its reopening for rehabilitation.
