Steven Page was a big part of Barenaked Ladies until 2009, when he left the Canadian rock band to embark on a solo career.
Page will come to Packard Music Hall in Warren on Saturday to headline a 7 p.m. concert. The show is a fundraiser for Southeast High School’s bands and choirs and will raise money to buy new instruments.
As befitting the first weekend of spring, the concert should be a ray of audio sunshine.
Preceding Page will be the a capella vocal quintet Street Corner Symphony and the Panyard Steel Orchestra, which uses steel drums to perform music Carribean-style.
Page was a founding member of Barenaked Ladies, and his set will likely feature a mix of material from his five solo albums and a handful of BNL hits that he wrote. It won’t be a full BNL experience, but attendees should expect to hear “It’s All Been Done,” “Jane,” “What a Good Boy,” “The Old Apartment” and “Brian Wilson.”
Tickets to the concert are $100, $75 and $50 and on sale at Ticketmaster.com (fees apply) and the Packard box office.
A one-weekend run of “The Complete History of America (abridged)” opens Friday at Salem Community Theatre.
It’s a zany and very fast-paced comedy from the Reduced Shakespeare Company. That’s the team that also created “The Complete Works of Shakespeare” (abridged)” and “The Bible: The Complete Word of God (abridged).”
The authors have been described as a modern day Marx Brothers, and if you’ve seen any of their works, you know what to expect. They updated “America” for the 2024 election, to take in everything from Manifest Destiny to Mar-A-Lago, and from Alexander Hamilton the patriot to “Hamilton, the Musical.”
Performances will start at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday (March 21-22) and 2 p.m. Sunday (March 23). The theater is at 490 E. State St., Salem. For tickets, click HERE.
