YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Members of the city’s design review committee will consider a request Tuesday by WesBanco Inc. to replace the signage on the former Home Savings Bank building.

According to city documents, WesBanco proposes to install signage above the front entrance of the building, 275 W. Federal St., and on all four sides of the building’s tower.

At the end of February, Wheeling, Pa.-based WesBanco completed its acquisition of Premier Financial Corp. Premier was formed by the 2020 merger of Youngstown’s Home Savings Bank, which had operated for more than a century, and First Federal Bank of the Midwest, based in Defiance.

The application calls for installation of two high-rise wall signs on the north and south sides of the tower, displaying the WesBanco logo and “WesBanco” text, measuring 35 feet, 8 inches wide and 5 feet, 5.5 inches high. Two high-rise wall signs to be installed on the east and west sides of the tower measuring 12 feet, 2 inches wide and 8 feet, 7.5 inches high will display the WesBanco logo. The entrance sign is 22 feet, 1 inch wide and 3 feet, 4.5 inches high.

All signage is facelit channel lettering, according to the application.

“Now that the acquisition is complete, we’re excited about the road ahead as one company. Former Premier financial centers will continue operating under the Premier Bank name until customer conversion, which is planned for mid-May,” a WesBanco spokesperson said in an emailed statement. “At that time or shortly after, we will brand all financial centers of the combined bank, including the tower location, as WesBanco.”

Also during the meeting, members of the committee will hear a request by the YMCA of Youngstown, 17 N. Champion St., to approve an approximately 450-square-foot addition to the downtown building to house electrical equipment.

The addition will be bricked to match the existing building, according to the application. Four access doors and an overhead door will be installed, as well as wall sconce lights.
