WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. – The Church of the Good Shepherd’s food pantry, through a partnership with the Mercer County Food Bank, has been feeding those in need throughout the borough and surrounding communities for one year.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held this week to celebrate the anniversary.

“As part of its strategic plan, [Mercer County Food Bank] has been actively working to implement member agencies to assist the food bank in meeting the needs of our food insecure neighbors residing in underserved and rural areas of the county,” said Rebecca Page, executive director of the food bank. “We are grateful to the Church of the Good Shepherd for answering this call last year, as neighbors now have access to nutritious food in an area that was previously underserved.”

Father Glenn Whitman said that after learning there was a high food insecurity rate within parish boundaries, discussions with the food bank began.

“It’s been a Godsend, not only for our neighbors, but for our parish family,” Whitman said.

The Church of the Good Shepherd food pantry is open on the first Wednesday of each month from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Those in need of food assistance in West Middlesex or the surrounding area can call the parish at 724 528 3539 for more information.
