SALEM, Ohio – Dale Woolf, owner of Woolf Farms, discussed the outlook for the upcoming growing season, highlighting both the diversity of the farm’s operations and the financial pressures facing farmers.
Woolf said the multigenerational farm, which spans more than 200 acres, produces a wide range of crops including strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, peaches and dozens of apple varieties, along with vegetables and cider production.
He noted that diversification helps protect the farm from weather-related challenges, while long-standing family experience provides guidance during difficult seasons.
However, Woolf said rising input costs — particularly for fertilizer and other supplies — remain a concern, with prices expected to increase as the planting season progresses, adding uncertainty for farmers planning ahead.
Despite the challenges, Woolf said preparation and strategic planning remain key as farmers navigate fluctuating costs and changing conditions in the year ahead.
