Workshop to Explore Computing Education for Students with ASD

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Youngstown State University, in partnership with the National Science Foundation, will host a virtual workshop focused on expanding access to computing education for middle school students with autism spectrum disorder.

The ISAC-X Grant Project workshop, Educator Workshop: Involving Students with ASD in Computing, will be presented from 10 a.m. to noon Friday.

The workshop will introduce educators and schools to a multigrade initiative designed to develop, test and share accessible computational thinking curricula, accommodations and instructional resources for middle school students with ASD.

Participants will also learn about findings related to the effectiveness of these adaptations, including student outcomes and teachers’ perceptions of the process used to develop instructional adaptations and accommodations. These findings will help identify successful practices and inform future implementation of accessible computing education.

The workshop will provide educators with an opportunity to gain practical tools, exchange ideas with fellow educators and explore strategies that can be applied directly in their classrooms.
