YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Youngstown Marathon Foundation recently awarded $30,000 to three area organizations.

The funds for the grants were raised by the foundation’s inaugural Sole to City event, which was held June 1 in Youngstown, according to a news release. The beneficiaries were Oh Wow! The Roger & Gloria Jones Center for Science & Technology, Paisley House Assisted Living and United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley. Each organization received $10,000.

The event, which included a half marathon, 2-mile fun run and kids’ race, began at Second Sole in Boardman, continued through Mill Creek Park and concluded at Penguin City Brewing Co. in Youngstown. Approximately 800 runners from the Mahoning Valley and five other states participated.

“The foundation exists not only to support running in our local community, but also to support local charities and organizations,” Lisa Resnick, board member, said in the release. “Since its inception, the Youngstown Marathon Foundation has donated over $80,000 to local charities.”

The 2026 Sole to City event will take place May 31. Participants can register at YoungstownMarathon.com. For updates, visit the Youngstown Marathon Facebook and Instagram pages.
