YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The city has been designated an America 250-Ohio City, which will provide opportunities for local leaders to network, partner and exchange information with the America 250-Ohio Commission.
“Everywhere I go in the state, you hear unique stories about people from Youngstown and where they are now. I am so proud to be from the Mahoning Valley, and they are too,” state Rep. Lauren McNally, D-59th, said in announcing the designation Friday.
“Youngstown has an incredibly rich history, from everything to art and manufacturing, and I’m thrilled the state is honoring that history with this designation,” McNally said. “I’m looking forward to working with our local leaders to celebrate this momentous time in our nation.”
America 250-Ohio is a multiyear commemoration where Ohioans from all 88 counties will be in the spotlight celebrating Ohio’s role and impact in America’s story. The 29-member America 250-Ohio Commission is preparing the state to participate in the nation’s 250th anniversary, which culminates July 4, 2026.
The city is “honored to be part of the celebration by sharing Youngstown’s part in our country’s journey,” Mayor Jamael Tito Brown said.
“They say no matter where you are in the United States, there’s always a Youngstown connection. When it comes to our storied history and our impact, that couldn’t be truer,” Brown said. “From being the birthplace of Good Humor, the Warner Brothers and countless athletes and actors, the steel industry of yesterday to leading the charge as a hub for advanced manufacturing technology and research today, Youngstown has a history of innovation that has always been at the forefront of driving America forward.”
