YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Paul C. Bunn Elementary School students recently placed third in the eighth annual NORSC AEOP Junior Solar Sprint Cars Competition.
During the event, which was held earlier this month at New London High School, students were challenged to develop the fastest, most interesting and best-crafted vehicle.
The local students will compete next at the 2025 National TSA Conference – AEOP JSS National Competition, which will be held June 27-July 1 in Nashville, Tenn.
Students from Chaney Middle School placed sixth at the NORSC AEOP competition. Students from Harding Elementary School placed eighth; and students from Rayen Early College Middle School and Taft Elementary School tied for ninth.
All participants from Youngstown City Schools will be recognized at the board of education’s meeting Tuesday.
NORSC Junior Solar Sprint is an official program of the Northern Ohio Rural STEM Collaborative, a 501c3 nonprofit organization of five rural school districts: Black River, Mapleton, New London, Northwestern and Wellington. The rural school districts work collaboratively to build a K-16 STEM pipeline that produces innovative and creative STEM-employable individuals. AEOP Junior Solar Sprint is a nationally sponsored program of the Army Educational Outreach Program. Junior Solar Sprint is managed by the Technology Student Association.
