YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Erik Ochsner, music director for the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra, wants to make the orchestra’s season opener approachable for audiences who may not regularly attend symphony concerts.

“Symphonic Sorcery,” scheduled for Friday, Oct. 2, at Stambaugh Auditorium, will feature 14 pieces inspired by spooky or magical themes. The program ranges from Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” to music associated with “The Shining,” “Jaws” and “The Twilight Zone.”

Ochsner says the event is designed as a social experience, with trick-or-treating in the lobby, costumes encouraged and a post-concert reception.
