YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio –Brian Welch, assistant athletic director at Youngstown State University, and Brenda Linert of the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber highlighted the upcoming Student-Athlete Career & Networking Day, an initiative designed to connect YSU athletes with local employers.

Welch said the event is part of a broader effort to provide intentional programming that prepares student-athletes not only for their collegiate careers but for long-term success beyond sports, emphasizing skills such as networking, interviewing and professional development.

Linert added that student-athletes bring valuable qualities to the workforce — including discipline, leadership and time management — making them strong candidates for regional employers seeking talent.

The event also aims to support workforce development in the Mahoning Valley by encouraging students, many of whom come from outside the area, to build careers locally and contribute to the region’s economy.

Organizers say the initiative reflects a growing partnership between YSU athletics and the Regional Chamber, with opportunities still available for businesses interested in participating.
