YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Youngstown State University’s steel bridge team placed second overall at the recent AISC Student Steel Bridge Competition National Finals at the University of Texas El Paso.
The competition involved designing, fabricating and constructing a scale model steel bridge to compete regionally and nationally. The competition, which was held May 22 and 23, also included universities from Canada and Mexico.
The YSU team, which is ranked No. 2 in the country, placed first in stiffness (load bearing/deflection) and second in efficiency, as well as second overall.
The YSU team members include captain Joe Macejko, Michael Gonda, Evan Fink, Calvin Ritchie, Jack Hrina, Nick Lichty, Cassidy Bryan and Ian Anthony.
The academic advisors are Anwarul Islam and Rick Deschenes.
