YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Youngstown State University’s Beeghly College of Liberal Arts, Social Science, and Education says it will begin offering associate degree programs at YSU’s new campus in Steubenville starting in the fall 2026 semester, pending final approval from the Ohio Department of Higher Education.
According to a monthly newsletter released by BCLASSE, the campus plans to offer Associate of Arts, Associate of Individualized Studies, Associate of Arts in Teacher Education and Pre-K Early Childhood Associate degrees.
Steubenville will also provide a range of general education courses, including writing, English, sociology, history, psychology and communications, the college announced.
However, YSU spokeswoman Becky Rose said the programs have yet to receive final approval from the Ohio Department of Higher Education. “These are among the programs that are pending,” she qualified.
Beeghly College also said it was looking to hire a full-time lecturer in early childhood for the Steubenville campus.
“While enrollments are difficult to predict, these new programs offer us an opportunity to contribute to the university’s mission, add to our faculty and recruit students for our bachelor’s degree programs,” the newsletter noted.
YSU is committed to offering 20 face-to-face programs in Jefferson County, spanning the four major professional areas – education, business, health care and STEM – as well as general education.
In November, YSU trustees voted to accept the title of the former Eastern Gateway Community College classroom building in Jefferson County from that county’s commissioners.
The keys to the building were expected to be formally turned over to YSU in December. The university said at the time that it could begin holding some classes in the summer at the Steubenville campus.
“But we’re going to do it right, because the people of that region deserve a quality education, and we want to make sure that we’re delivering the kind that they want,” YSU President Bill Johnson told The Business Journal in December.
