STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – Youngstown State University Steubenville will welcome new students and the community with its inaugural Penguin Kickoff on Aug. 11.

The event is designed to help incoming students prepare for the start of the fall semester while showcasing the opportunities available at YSU Steubenville.

The event will take place from 3-7 p.m. for students accepted for the fall semester, with rising high school seniors and community members invited to attend from 4-7 p.m. Accepted students will have the opportunity to complete important enrollment steps and connect with classmates, faculty and current YSU students.

“At Youngstown State University, we believe opportunity begins with connection,” said Jennifer Board, YSU Steubenville executive director. “Penguin Kickoff marks the moment our newest students officially become part of the Penguin family. Before they ever step into a classroom, they’ll meet the faculty and staff invested in their success, connect with fellow students and discover the resources that will help them thrive.”

Throughout the event, accepted students can:

  • Attend an Admitted Student Session at 3:15 p.m. or 6 p.m.
  • Meet with Academic Advising to complete class registration, if needed.
  • Receive one-on-one assistance from Financial Aid and the Penguin Service Center.
  • Submit their YSU ID photo.
  • Complete placement testing, if required.
  • Visit the bookstore to shop for YSU merchandise.
  • Pick up a free Penguin Kick-Off T-shirt, while supplies last.

In addition to serving incoming students, Penguin Kickoff will offer an opportunity for prospective students and families to discover everything YSU Steubenville has to offer. Rising high school seniors and community members are invited to explore academic programs, learn about affordable degree pathways, meet faculty, staff and current students and apply for admission.

The free event will also feature a community fair with games, prizes and food trucks open to all attendees.

“Penguin Kickoff reflects our commitment to making higher education accessible, personal and connected to the communities we serve,” Board said. “Whether you’re enrolling for this fall or just beginning to explore your college options, we invite you to experience firsthand why YSU Steubenville is an institution of opportunity.”
