YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Following an outstanding performance in the classroom during the 2024 fall semester, Youngstown State University’s 477 student-athletes combined for a 3.46 grade-point average, the athletics department announced this week.
In the fall, 374 student-athletes (78%) had a semester GPA above 3.0, while 118 student-athletes (25%, percent) posted a 4.0 GPA. More than half of those student-athletes (72) have maintained a cumulative GPA of 4.0 upon the conclusion of the fall semester.
As a collective group, the Penguins own a 3.49 cumulative GPA for their YSU academic careers – the second-best total in department history. A total of 402 student-athletes have a cumulative grade-point average above 3.0, or 84%.
Following the semester, all of YSU’s programs own a cumulative GPA of at least 3.32.
In the fall, 13 programs boasted a GPA of 3.40 or above. The women’s golf team posted the best semester GPA at 3.97, and the women’s tennis team was just behind at 3.82. Women’s basketball registered a 3.79 GPA, and the volleyball program posted a 3.67 GPA.
All of YSU’s women’s sports had 3.47 GPAs or above in the fall.
Men’s tennis owns the highest cumulative GPA of the men’s programs at 3.66 and had the top semester GPA of 3.71. Men’s swimming and diving had the second-best semester GPA at 3.48, and Track and Field/XC was third at 3.40.
