YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Youngstown State University freshman Isabella Williams has been named this year’s Outstanding Youth Fundraiser, recognized for her efforts to support students with autism through an event she created while still in high school.
Williams, a Hubbard High School graduate, launched Shoot for a Change in 2023 after watching her cousin, a student with autism, thrive at Potential Development School for Students with Autism. Wanting to give back, she organized a benefit basketball game between Hubbard students and Potential Development’s team, complete with raffles, concessions and community sponsorships. The annual event has since raised more than $12,000.
“She didn’t just support a cause – she created an opportunity for joy, inclusion and awareness,” said Jodi Harmon, who nominated Williams.
In addition to her fundraising efforts, Williams has volunteered with several local nonprofits, including the Down Syndrome Association of the Valley and Red Door Café Soup Kitchen. She has also led a school-wide “Cut for Cancer” event, donating 10 inches of her hair to Children With Hair Loss.
Now pursuing a career in education, Williams says her goal is to continue supporting students with developmental delays. “If you find something you’re passionate about, go and do it,” she said. “It makes a difference.”
