YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A group of Youngstown State University students was recently inducted into the Clarence P. Gould Honor Society, recognizing student work in the liberal arts and sciences.
The induction ceremony was held at the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor.
The Clarence P. Gould Honor Society bears the name of the late Dr. Clarence P. Gould, professor and chairman of the history department from 1938 to 1958. The Gould Society is YSU’s counterpart to Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious liberal arts honor society.
Chartered in 1958, the Gould Society inducts students from the liberal arts and sciences who are among the top 1% of juniors and top 5% of seniors. Gould Society inductees demonstrate pursuit of a broad, well-rounded education that incorporates interdisciplinarity, cultural awareness and preparedness for a range of professions.
The following undergraduate YSU students were inducted into the society last month:
- Seniors Michelle Ani, Alexa Becker, Lynn Chahine, Zachary Haley, Emily McNicol, Cory Penick; and juniors Simon Kovass and Anthony Mazzella, all biological sciences.
- Seniors Madison Beaudis, Sarah Betts, Ashlyn Bishop, Mara Jaracz, Isabella Less, Logan Stambolia, Milla Riffle-Crogan; and junior Gino Pilolli, all psychology.
- Seniors Nicholas Bianco, journalism; and Scott Chittock, double journalism and multimedia.
- Senior Benjamin Bish, mathematics and physics.
- Junior Margaret Byers, public and professional writing.
- Seniors Jessica Cramer, Jordyn Juillerat and Zachary Lao, all physics astronomy.
- Seniors Elizabeth Crockett, Melina Mottiqua, both political science; and Brandon Tabak, philosophy and political science.
- Senior Kayelyn Crofford, geology.
- Senior Abigail Faix, anthropology.
- Seniors Charles Kaufman and Olivia Zura, computer science and mathematics; and Nabayt Kibreab, computer science and economics.
- Senior Olivia Puhalla, biochemistry.

- Seniors Natalie Snedden and Michael Vinkler, both history.
