YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Kilcawley: Centered on the Future Campaign at Youngstown State University has reached over $8 million in 55 gifts and pledges, bringing the total raised between pledges, gifts, grants and state funding toward the renovation of Kilcawley Center to more than $22 million.
All members of the YSU Board of Trustees have contributed to the campaign, totaling more than $1.2 million.
“Having the full support of the YSU Board of Trustees is a tremendous accomplishment and speaks volumes about the commitment we have to enhancing the student experience at Youngstown State University,” YSU President Bill Johnson said. “This renovation is about more than just upgrading a building – it’s about investing in our students and ensuring they have the resources and spaces they need to succeed academically, socially and professionally. The board’s 100% participation is a powerful indicator of their belief in the transformative potential of this project.”
The planned Kilcawley Center renovation includes updated lounges, expanded dining options, a new black-box theater for performances and enhanced connectivity with the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center. The project also aims to integrate indoor and outdoor spaces to create a more accessible and inclusive environment for students. As of January, the estimated project cost was more than $50 million.
“Kilcawley Center has been a cornerstone of student life at YSU for decades, and it’s exciting to see our Board of Trustees fully invested in its future,” said Scott Schulick, campaign chairman and a former YSU trustee. “I am grateful for their leadership, as well as their individual and collective support for the campaign. Their 100% personal participation in this campaign speaks to the importance of this renovation in shaping the future for our students and the community at large. The leadership of the Board of Trustees provides an excellent example and a challenge to others to support this critical project.”
YSU Student Trustee Natalie Dando said the student center renovation is critical to ensuring future students have the tools and spaces they need to thrive.
“I am proud to be part of a university that is committed to investing in its students, and I’m excited to see this project come to life,” she said.
