3 Youngstown City Schools Receive Gold Recognition

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – East Middle School, Volney Rogers Elementary and Youngstown Rayen Early College High School all received Gold Recognition for their implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.

PBIS guides school teams in selecting, integrating and implementing evidence-based practices for improving academic, social and behavioral outcomes for all students. Schools that implement PBIS see a reduction in disciplinary issues, an increase in student engagement and an overall improvement in school climate, a news release states.

“The district demonstrates a strong commitment to fostering positive behavior and creating a safe environment for all scholars,” YCSD Superintendent Jeremy Batchelor said. “The PBIS recognition reflects the commitment and dedication of our PBIS team and school community in ensuring that all scholars have the opportunity to thrive academically and socially.”

Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary, Taft Elementary, Wilson Alternative and Virtual Academy earned Bronze status this year. Harding Elementary was elevated from Bronze to Silver.
