February Jobless Rates Decline in Mahoning Valley

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The combined unemployment rate in Mahoning and Trumbull counties fell to 6.8% in February, down from 7.3% in January and from 8.5% in February 2014, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported this morning. When Mercer County is factored in, the Youngstown Metropolitan Statistical Area’s unemployment rate was 6.5% in February compared to 7.0% in January and 8.2% in February 2014.

Ohio county and city jobless rates during February were also released this morning.

In Columbiana County, unemployment stood at 6.5% in February, compared to 7.1% in January and 8% in February 2014.

In Mahoning County the jobless rate was 6.6% in February, down from 7.1% in January and 8.3% last February. But in Youngstown, the unemployment rate was 8.0% last month. That compares with 8.8% in January and 10% in February 2014.

Trumbull County’s unemployment rate was 7.0% in February – 7.5% in January and 8.8% in February 2014. In the city of Warren, the February jobless rate was 7.7%. In January unemployment there stood at 8.2%. Last February it was 10.0%.
