10 Horizontal Permits Issued for New Utica Wells
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources awarded 10 new permits for horizontal wells in the Utica shale during the week ended July 15, according to the agency’s latest report.
Oklahoma City-based Gulfport Energy Corp. received the most permits with seven – four for wells in Belmont County and another three in Monroe County.
ODNR reported 23 rigs operating in the Utica for the week, compared to 25 the previous week.
Two permits were awarded to Chesapeake Exploration LLC for wells in Harrison County, while a single permit was issued to Ascent Resources Utica LLC for a well in Jefferson County.
As of July 15, there were 2,551 permits for horizontal wells issued in eastern Ohio’s Utica, 2,052 of which are drilled and 1,590 of which are in production.
