$250K Grant to Support Mercer, Lawrence Workforce Program

HARRISBURG, Pa. – The West Central Workforce Development Board will receive a $250,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry.

The grant will support a West Central Workforce Development Board program to provide job training to young adults who were formerly incarcerated. The Community Connections program links the young adults to reentry project partners who determine skill sets and training gaps, the need for supportive services and training options. Each participant is assigned a joint adult mentoring team for advice throughout the program.

“This program is a win-win,” said state Rep. Parke Wentling of Mercer, R-7th. “It has the potential to bring new workers to the labor force while giving young adults a second chance to become productive members of society.”

The West Central Workforce Development Board works to retain and attract businesses in Mercer and Lawrence counties.
