25th Annual Streetscape Kicks Off Friday

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Youngstown Cityscape is kicking off the silver anniversary of its annual Streetscape event at 8 a.m. on March 18.

The event marks the beginning of fundraising efforts for the 25th annual planting day, according to a press release. During the event, Cityscape will announce this year’s campaign theme, details about volunteer registration and planting day, and a special announcement.

“We will be so excited to see our volunteers downtown, celebrate 25 years of Streetscape Day and join together for lunch,” Cityscape Executive Director Sharon Letson said in the release. “Streetscape 2022 will be a wonderful way to start the summer.”

The kick-off event will be held at Smarts on the first floor of the Ohio One building at 25 E. Boardman St.

This year’s Streetscape event is scheduled for June 4. Projects include trimming, planting flowers and shrubs, removing debris and mulching planted areas. Lunch will be catered by downtown and area restaurants under a big tent on East Federal Street.

Focus areas include Central Square, West and East Federal Streets, John Young Memorials, South Avenue Bridge Police Memorial, Mahoning Commons, the B&O Station, the Choffin hillside, City Hall, the Williamson staircase, Wick Park, Harrison Common, Smoky Hollow and more.

Interested volunteers can sign up at YoungstownCityscape.org/events. The first 500 registrants receive a free, limited edition 25th anniversary T-shirt.
