3 Minutes With: Department of Energy’s Steve Winberg
BOARDMAN, Ohio – The Mahoning Valley could take part in an “Appalachian renaissance” via the natural gas industry, a Department of Energy official said at the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber’s Salute to Business Breakfast.
Steve Winberg, assistant secretary for fossil energy, said the development of petrochemical plants – like the one under construction in Monaca, Pa. – bring with them a slate of additional businesses.
“There’s the potential for new petrochemical industry across Appalachia,” he said. “It spans the entire natural gas value chain: produce it, transporting it, extracting the methane – the liquid form – and creating a solid business environment for business to come in and make investments.”
